2024 August Update

We are excited to share the progress made since our last update. Our dedicated crews have been hard at work, with new stay bolts arriving for 3985. A team of volunteers, led by Jeff Miller, tirelessly working on a new rear knuckle for 3985’s firebox. Rust and debris on the boiler of 3985 are being diligently addressed, while the complex suspension from 4014’s tender is  being removed and undergoing thorough cleaning and inspection. The cab of the 3985 has been sandblasted and is now undergoing necessary repairs before painting and future installment.

Additionally, our teams are also focusing on making Stanford Amtrak certified once again by changing out worn out wheels for new. Crews are also prepping the caboose for paint, removing any lights, covers, windows and trim.
